I actually had a dive buddy today. Lynette and I went to Mala ramp in Lahaina as Lynette has never dived there. I only did it from the shore once before, a couple of years ago, and it is a difficult entry and exit because you have to walk over shallow reef that is only ankle to shin deep. But we made it.
Mala is known for turtles and Whitetip Reef Sharks, and we saw both… and lots! We can only really guess but I think we saw about 40 Hawaiian Green Sea Turtles on this dive. There were 2 spots that each had 12 to 15 turtles, and then some other spots that each had a few. At one point I was taking a picture of a turtle and someone, I thought, tapped me on the shoulder… but it was another turtle.
Please enjoy today’s (actually yesterday’s) dive photos, starting with some shots that Lynette took of yours truly:
No videos today. I am experimenting with the newly-discovered-how-to-enable-and-use 48 MP mode on the iPhone 14 Pro. It’s quite nice and will allow for great detail once I get it down. However to use 48 MP mode, you cannot zoom at all and you can only use the main lens, which is a minimal wide angle lens. Minimum focusing distance is good, about 8″ I think, but I wish it were closer or had a way to attach a +10 close-up lens to the front of the Sportdiver housing. Also I only used the 5000+ light, handheld; Which I think is my new go to. Hand holding the light allows for quicker light aiming and independent adjustment from the camera. It does limit me to one light, but the 5000+ is wide enough for most, if not all, circumstances.
