Combining 2 dives into one blog post since I did not take too many usable pictures. I am experimenting with using a GoPro HERO 11, using red filters instead of lights when possible. And also shooting 360 underwater footage with an Insta360 x3.
I am thinking of maybe switching my focus to shooting video rather than stills. We’ll see how the 360 footage turns out.
Hawaiian Green Sea Turtle
Bigscale Soldierfish
Yellowfin Goatfish

For these dives, I used the GoPro Hero 11 with either no filter and no light (< 20 ft), or light red filter and no light (20-40 ft), or with the SeaDragon 5000+ light hand held (macro shots). For the Macro shots, I used the Backscatter Flip+ Macromate lens on the GoPro housing. And for the 360, I used the Insta360 X3 with their dive housing (don’t use a 3rd party one, they distort underwater).
The title pretty much says it. On this day I only took the Insta360 X3 camera and filmed my dive on Ulua Reef in 360. No quite as dramatic as the caverns in 360 in the Makena Landing 360 video (which freaked my wife out), but I did get some…
I just uploaded a 10 minute 360 video to YouTube called "360 Maui Reef Scenes." Basically a collection of 360 footage I took over 5 dives with the new Insta360 X4 8K 360 camera. Best viewed with a VR headset while seated in a swivel chair. Otherwise you can scroll…
I saw that the Maui Diamond II was going to these 2 unusual sites (as in they don't schedule trips to them very often and I have never dove them), so I skipped work and booked a dive boat trip. As for the sites, Triple Anchors consists of, as the…
